EXi Everywhere Partner Program

Ditech Network's new EXi Everywhere Partner Program makes our voice quality measurement technology broadly available to the communications industry. In addition to deploying EXi on our own voice quality platforms, Ditech makes multi-platform support available to mobile handset and headset manufacturers, communications providers, network equipment vendors, test and measurement companies, standards organizations, consulting firms and other solutions providers.

EXi quantifies the impact of voice quality impairments caused by the places where people make calls, codec impairments, and by the wide variety of mobile devices like phones and headsets. Before EXi, the communications industry had difficulty identifying meaningful trends or the root causes of substandard voice quality caused by ambient noise, echo or voice-level mismatch on live calls.

EXi has been utilized in the industry as a complement to existing test and measurement solutions. By incorporating EXi into existing drive tests and network monitoring solutions, the communications industry can add important new information from the subscriber’s actual call experience to data from the network. When voice quality impairments originating from the subscriber’s environment are added to impairments originating in the network, the communications industry finally has a complete and accurate picture of actual voice quality that is experienced by customers.

Carriers use this information to identify and address the impact of substandard voice quality on churn, customer satisfaction, subscriber additions, marketing programs and network design. The powerful combination of subscriber and network information gives the industry new insight and knowledge on shaping voice quality for specific markets.

Brix is integrate Ditech’s Experience Intelligence (EXi) technology into its BrixCall advanced call signaling analysis and media correlation application. Brix products gather intelligence from network elements and endpoint devices to create a comprehensive view of performance and quality for revenue-generating services. The addition of EXi enables Brix to extend these capabilities to provide a view of how the subscriber call experience is impacted by a variety of voice quality impairments, such as background noise, echo, and mismatched speech levels.

P3 currently utilizes PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation Of Speech Quality) as part of its drive test service for mobile carriers. PESQ is a widely used method to objectively measure “listening quality,” and is effective in detecting network issues caused, for example, by poor mobile coverage or excessive radio network interference. PESQ is not designed to detect “conversational quality,” which is affected by acoustic echo from devices like mobile phones and headsets, and ambient noise from the caller’s environment. P3 will utilize EXi to fill this gap.
