Increased Network Capacity with Improved Voice Quality
As GSM and CDMA networks continue their rapid growth, carriers must balance deployment of costly new infrastructure build-outs to address the needs of a growing subscriber base against available capital budgets. Ditech Networks’ voice quality solutions enable service providers to increase the capacity of their current network with minimal capital investment, without compromising service quality. Ditech’s cost-effective solutions improve the capacity and quality of service delivered during peak calling periods. Ditech’s GSM and CDMA Capacity Enhancement solutions:
- Lower the cost of capacity expansion
- Eliminate need for costly infrastructure upgrades
- Enhance the sound quality of low bitrate codecs
- Improve the voice quality of all codecs
Capacity in GSM Networks
Designed specifically for the A-Interface, Ditech's GSM Capacity solution is a suite of sophisticated features that allows carriers to leverage the capabilities of their existing infrastructure by allowing increased use of the GSM Half Rate (GSM-HR) vocoder and significantly improving downlink Discontinuous Transmission (DTX) performance.
Ditech’s Voice Quality Assurance™ (VQA™) algorithms lead the industry with up to 21 dB bidirectional noise reduction, exclusive bidirectional acoustic echo cancellation, and innovative voice enhancement solutions. In live network subscriber tests, corroborated by third-party test results, calls using Half Rate with Ditech’s VQA technology measured as good as the same calls at Full Rate without VQA technology. By extending the area where calls with acceptable voice quality can be made, carriers can confidently deploy GSM-HR and low bitrate AMR codecs, enabling higher equipment utilization while maintaining acceptable voice quality.
In addition, Ditech’s solution removes a wide variety of background noise types which, when combined with a specially tuned comfort noise signature, results in improved performance of the DTX Voice Activity Detector (VAD). This results in greater downlink DTX usage, reduced signal interference, and an increase in network capacity.
Capacity in CDMA Networks
Ditech's CDMA Capacity solution is highly effective at removing background noise and acoustic echo (also heard as noise) on the forward link. This enables the Rate Determination Algorithm (RDA) in the Enhanced Variable Rate Codec (EVRC) to select a lower bit rate, providing a measured increase in forward-link capacity by reducing the average data rate selected by the vocoder. The solution also improves the speech quality of calls at all bit rates in both directions by employing bidirectional features for background noise reduction, speech enhancement, background noise compensation, acoustic echo control, and voice level adjustment.
Ditech’s GSM and CDMA Capacity solutions improve voice quality of all vocoders. As the demand for wireless communications grows and service providers seek low-cost alternatives to ease capacity constraints, wireless voice quality is an important service differentiator. Ditech Networks’ flexible, scalable voice processor platforms address both the voice quality and capacity issues associated with mobile networks.
