Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) is a mobile telecommunications technology developed by Motorola to support growth in wireless communication. It uses speech compression and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) to add capacity and meet growing customer demands.
In conditions where impairments such as background noise, acoustic echo and level mismatch occur, voice quality degrades more quickly when iDEN's 6:1 low bitrate codec is used. Regardless of whether a 6:1 or 3:1 codec is used, carriers must consider the tradeoff between network capacity and voice quality.
With Ditech Networks' solution, carriers can increase the usage of low bitrate codecs without compromising voice quality.
Ditech's Voice Quality Assurance product reduces or eliminates external impairments that affect voice quality and has a proven ability to improve a carrier's Mean Opinion Score (MOS). We have adapted our voice quality algorithms for the iDEN suite of codecs to correct for speech compression issues.
Additionally, our powerful Experience Intelligence service measures impairments both outside and inside of the network that are directly linked to customer dissatisfaction, and presents these findings in the form of a MOS value. Service providers now can fully understand the level of voice quality that is actually delivered to subscribers.
When combined, carriers have a powerful way to utilize the 6:1 codec to improve capacity while continuing to maintain delivered voice quality.
These products are deployed on our carrier-grade, high density platforms based on what type of network is being supported.
